In 2026, Sancta celebrates 100 years of empowering women and their allies

Young voices have echoed through Sancta’s halls for 100 years, as full of joy and promise today as they were in 1926.

In March 1926, twenty-three pioneering women moved into a half-finished building on Missenden Road to form Sancta’s first student community. Lit only by candlelight and led by the fearless Reverend Mother Margaret MacRory, it is easy to imagine the excitement and nervousness they were feeling as they came together for their very first meal. They surely did not know that their courage and ambitions would illuminate Sancta for a century.

Since that first night, more than 6,000 students have called Sancta home: women and men of compassion, curiosity and conviction who have gone on to lead, serve, and create change in every corner of the world.
